I have upgraded my hemp basket into a pretty floral picnic basket by adding some crocheted flowers and leaves. You can get the flower and leaf pattern here, it has a crochet butterfly ornament too. Use this basket to carry your crochet or knit yarn outdoors, you can even bring some bread, sandwiches, fruits and drinks for a small picnic or use the basket to collect flowers from the garden, isn’t that a great idea?
Floral Picnic Basket
Materials and tools:
- A round hemp basket or any similar soft basket.
- Crochet needle 3.5 mm or the size to match your yarn
- Tapestry needle.
- 2 2-inch diameter wooden buttons.
- ch: chain
- sc: single stitch
- st: stitch
- slst: slip stitch
Make a hemp basket or you can buy a similar one.
Weave a 1×4 inches strap. The pattern is:
-Row 1: ch8
-Row 2-18: ch1 (first sc), 7 sc in each st, turn.
-Button loop: ch until length (including strap width) is twice the diameter of your button, slst to the other end of the last row of the strap.
-Row 19: slst in each st and cast off.
Weave 8 flowers and 2 leaves with this pattern.
Sew the strap into the hemp basket, about 1 inch below the handle.
Sew the button to the basket.
Sew another button on the other side.
Put the strap on the button. You can do this after sewing the flowers and leaves.
Sew the flowers onto the basket. You can also glue them with a hot glue gun. Hide the ends of the strands and now it’s done!
