Recycled fabric gives you infinite possibilities to create a wide variety of accessories, thus, along with having new pieces you can recycle the clothes you no longer use and give them new life. Today we’ll see how to transform a t-shirt into a necklace, which will surely be the center of attention.
How to turn a t-shirt into a necklace
- Large charm or pendant.
- Clasp to close (optional).
Step by step:
To start, decide on the length you want for the necklace. In the image you can see a long necklace, but this measure can be adapted according to your needs. If you make a long necklace, you can tie it at the ends so that it easily passes over your head. If you make it shorter, you will need to add the clasp to close.
Cut a strip of nylon to the length decided for the necklace, add 5 cm to that measurement so you can work comfortably.
You can make the necklace as seen in the image, combining volumes of the recycled fabric as the necklace rises, or opt for a single volume.
If you choose to have a single volume it’s advisable to use yarn. If you want to do it as seen in the image just cut a t-shirt into strips with various widths and add them to the collar starting with the widest strips.
Insert the bead or pendant and take it to the center of the nylon.
Begin to introduce the fabric in one of the halves from the bead, help yourself with the needle to sew the nylon through the fabric, what you should to do is fold the fabric strips back on themselves as you pass the nylon through them. Make sure the strips are snug against each other.
When you have completed one half, repeat the previous step with the other half. Use the same number of strips on each side so that the necklace is symmetrical.
Attach the clasp to close (if necessary) and your recycled fabric necklace is ready.
