I found an old t-shirt in good condition as it hasn’t been used much over the years. I wanted to see what I could do with it and this is what I was able to create: a cute and original pillowcase.

Decorate a pillow with t-shirt yarn

First, cut 2 rectangles of 15 x 22 inches and many 1 inch wide strips. If the shirt you have is smaller you can cut smaller rectangles to make a small pillowcase.

In one of the rectangles you can start a “drawing”. Stretching the strips of fabric will create an interesting effect on the pillowcase. I didn’t have any designs at all I just snapped on the first strip and started sewing.

Keep creating a design with the strips of fabric.

After having a “drawing” with the strips of fabric I made some “special” strips to fill in some spaces. To make this type of strip, sew in the middle of the strips with large stitches and pull on one extreme of the thread.

Sew around with a 1/4 inch seam and be sure to leave a 3-4 inches opening for turning the pillowcase.

Trim the corners for a clean finish.

Turn and iron the edges!
